Summer Reading| ‘If I Stay’ By Gayle Forman

My loves,

Every now and then I have been branching out of my traditional Beauty and Fashion posts. I hope all of you are actually enjoying this and not screaming at your computer screen for the next beauty product! But let’s be honest there is more to us women then just lipstick and nail polish right? So I thought I would share with you some books I’m reading this summer. I’m not sure why but I tend to read a lot more in the summer. I’m going to try to make it a habit to read more in general!

I much prefer easy, light reads for the summer, again I’m really not sure why. I go through periods of reading tons of books to not reading anything at all. I tend to pick up super depressing novels, I have no idea where this stems from but I’m just drawn to horribly sad stories. I was recently at Indigo with my mom and I came across the novel ‘If I Stay’ which caught my attention immediately because I remember seeing a poster for a movie with that title. I was intrigued so I picked it up and read the back. Now to make sure I’m really going to be interested in a book I always read the first few pages in the store. I was hooked immediately.

“In the blink of an eye everything changes. Seventeen year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall what happened afterwards, watching her own damaged body being taken from the wreck. Little by little she struggles to put together the pieces- to figure out what she has lost, what she has left, and the very difficult choice she must make. Heartwrenchingly beautiful, this will change the way you look at life, love, and family. Now a major motion picture starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia’s story will stay with you for a long, long time.”

I seriously loved this book. I’m not going to lie it’s incredibly sad and if you are one to cry easily you will need a box of tissues. It’s beautifully written and tugs at your heart-strings. It really does make you look at your life differently and really value the family and friends you have. As I said previously it is an easy read and not very long. It is a ‘teen novel’, but I really tend to love teen drama. I cannot even begin to tell you my obsession with bad teen tv drama, it’s an actual problem.

When I finished reading this novel I was immediately sad that I had finished it and it was over. I hate when I’m reading a good book and it ends! Luckily for me there is a sequel, so I immediately picked it up. I love reading the book before I see the movie. From what I can see from the previews however, it looks like it’s going to be pretty bang on. Which I’m happy about, because I will get to enjoy it all over again.

IMG_4096If you like an easy read and don’t mind that it’s not an epically written novel you should pick this up. It has young love, family love and friendship love. It teaches you to value the little moments in life that we tend to not appreciate. And it really shows you how important family is and how lucky we are to have the people that surround us and love us on a daily basis.

Have you read ‘If I Stay’? Will you see the movie?
