Benefit| They’re Real! Push-Up Liner

My loves,

As you all know I love Benefit cosmetics. It is probably one of my favorite makeup companies out there. It’s so fun and cute and there products are amazing. Benefit’s ‘Hoola’ bronzer is actually one of my favorite makeup products EVER! I literally can’t leave my house without it. So when Benefit came out with their new ‘They’re Real! Push Up Liner’, I knew I had to get my hands on it and try it. It was getting great reviews and seemed to really work. So I went out and purchased it for myself to try. I mean who doesn’t love a good liquid eyeliner? Especially one that claims to be smudge proof and hugs the lash line easily.

“It’s the FIRST EVER lash-hugging gel liner in a pen! This matte black gel formula won’t smudge, budge or dry out, and the innovative soft AccuFlex™ Tip hugs your lashline from corner to corner. The closer the line, the bigger the eye!”

91% said it was longwearing*
81% said it was waterproof*
88% said it hugged the lashline*
84% said eyes looked visibly larger*
*Results observed in a consumer panel survey on 32 women after 2 weeks

How to apply

Twist base once to “push up” gel liner to tip. Resting the AccuFlex™ tip on the base of your lashes, slowly guide along your lash line from the inner or outer corner. The angled AccuFlex™ tip works both ways.

It really pains me to say this because I’m a huge fan of Benefit cosmetics but I absolutely hate this gel liner. It is actually really terrible, which surprises me coming from Benefit. Especially with all the hype this product had, I’m incredibly disappointed. It claims to be long-lasting and it literally smudges and wears a way within hours of application. I didn’t test out the waterproof aspect but I’m assuming that’s false considering it’s not long-lasting. It does not in any way shape or form hug the lash line. I am a trained professional makeup artist and I had a hard time applying this gel liner. It comes out in clumps and flakes away making it incredibly difficult to achieve a clean, even line. And sure it makes your eyes look visibly larger because it’s literally impossible to create a thin line.

I much prefer Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liquid Liner. It’s much easier to apply, it’s long-lasting and creates a nice even line. I’m so sad that I did not like this product. I actually think this is the first time ever I haven’t liked a Benefit product. It’s definitely not worth the money and far too much work and effort. I highly do not recommend purchasing this product. Sorry my loves, I’m just as disappointed as you are.

Have you tried Benefit’s New Gel Liner?

  1. Oooh, controversial! I haven’t tried this liner yet, but after meeting another professional makeup artist on the set of a TV show, I’m not surprised at your review. She said Benefit’s just a gimmick and it’s all about the packaging. Just like you, I’m a huge fan of their cheek products but perhaps she was right in this case! xx
