Non-Surgical Beauty Treatments

My loves,

The beauty industry is forever changing and advancing and with new technology there are many surgical and non-surgical beauty treatments. There is the constant debate whether plastic surgery, lip injections etc. are taking beauty treatments too far. Are we taking it too far? Should we really be altering our image? How vain has our society become? However, there are many non-surgical beauty treatments that I for one am all about and would love to try. And I’m not going to lie Botox and filler can be very tempting. What are your thoughts on surgical and non-surgical beauty treatments? Check out this article that explains 5 Top Non-Surgical Beauty Tricks. Latisse, Chemical Peels and Medical Grade Skin Care products are all the hype right now. And let me tell you these products work.

Plastic Surgeons’ Top 5 Non-Surgical Beauty Tricks

I’m always on the hunt for the latest beautification tips, and I recently got inspired to check out a source I’d never really thought about: plastic surgery practices.

A friend told me a few weeks ago about a TIME magazine article she had just read called Nip. Tuck. Or Else. that described how a visit to the plastic surgeon’s office may someday soon become just a regular part of health and beauty maintenance, like getting a haircut. Just think: You could tune up your face with BOTOX® and fillers every 6 months, get laser treatments in between, update your breast implants every 10 years, and get a facelift every 15.

OK, maybe I’m not ready for that kind of commitment yet, but it still got me thinking (and Googling) about plastic surgery services. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many practices seem to be geared toward a more inclusive — and less invasive — approach to beauty care.

For example, I found the Oakville plastic surgery practice Cosmedica, which seemed to focus more on the non-surgical side of cosmetic enhancement. My overall impression at this point is that many plastic surgeons are trying to capitalize on the med spa phenomenon, which I totally understand both from a business standpoint and as a potential patient.

After doing my research, I figured I ought to share the love. Here is my countdown of the top non-invasive treatments you can get from plastic surgeons.

No. 5: Photorejuvenation

Photorejuvenation harnesses the power of light to help rejuvenate your face. The most popular and effective form is called intense pulsed light, or IPL. It can reduce the appearance of acne scars, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, fine lines, and wrinkles in quick, painless treatments. Check out some of the awesome before-and-after pictures at RealSelf, a popular cosmetic enhancement forum, to get a better idea of what IPL can do.

No. 4: LATISSE® Lashes

If you are even a little familiar with the beauty world, then you know about LATISSE and the wonders it can work on your lashes, causing them to grow thicker and darker. I know a number of women who use LATISSE as just another step in their beauty routines. You need a physician to prescribe the popular serum, and most cosmetic surgeons are happy to oblige.

No. 3: Chemical Peels

I have been getting facials semi-regularly at spas for years, and I’ve considered making the leap to chemical peels. Both treatments help exfoliate and restore skin, removing impurities and adding vital nutrients. Now, as I’m getting older, I’m considering getting a peel at a plastic surgery practice. The nice thing about that is you can choose the intensity of the peel from a gentle “lunchtime” peel to an entire facial sloughing under the guidance of medically trained professionals.

No. 2: Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is similar to a peel in that it helps remove the damaged surface layers of skin, but it uses the targeted precision of a laser. There are lots of laser devices out there that are designed for lots of different concerns, from acne scars and dark spots to wrinkles, and they’re customizable treatments. They’re completely safe and very effective when performed by a trained provider, and they rarely require significant downtime.

No. 1: Medical-Grade Skincare Products

I know skincare products might seem tame compared with lasers, but hear me out! Imagine someone with years of medical training that has dedicated his or her life to studying skin. Now, imagine that person examines your skin specifically and helps you pick out a regimen custom-tailored to your skin type and issues. The regimen contains products that are more powerful than anything you can get at the drugstore, and it’s designed to target your current issues and prevent future ones. Sweet deal, right? I rest my case.

So, there are my top non-surgical plastic surgery procedures! I want to emphasize that although many of these treatments are also available at salons and spas, the results just won’t match up to those provided by medically trained providers. These folks know what they’re doing. Make sure your provider is licensed and experienced!

Have you had any non-surgical procedures at a cosmetic surgery practice, or are you planning to soon? I would love to know about your experience.

Laurelle, xo
